Friedens Church of Washington
A Rural United Church of Christ

When people are open to the presence of God, great things can be accomplished. In the last decades of the 19th century, an increasing amount of German immigrants began to settle around the Washington community. Moved by the Spirit of the Lord, a group of families requested the services of a pastor, and in 1988, Rev. Klindworth from the neighboring community of William Penn began to meet with them. Under his spiritual leadership, these families soon sought to establish a house of worship and a resident minister, and by 1890, they had constructed a building for worship, and educational building, and a parsonage for the pastor with Rev. David Buchmueller being the first official and resident miniter of the then named Friedens Evangelical Church. The church is now called Friedens Church of Washington, UCC.

The first members of the church decided on the name "Friedens" for the church, which means "peace." And it is within the peace of Jesus Christ that this church continues to witness to the Gospel of our Lord sharing in the ministry of our Savior. From the very beginning, the church has maintained a strong commitment to education. With many of the members being direct descendents from the founding members, the church bolsters a strong community of support and dedication. The members of Friedens Church of Washington, UCC are both caring and friendly, and the church fosters a relaxed and inviting atmosphere. With its founding roots within the German evangelical tradition, Friedens maintains its commitment to the United Church of Christ, and is dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I am both privileged and honored to be the newest minister to serve this fine church, for Friedens has a proud history of faithful, pastoral leadership. I endeavor to fulfill my role as pastor and teacher, facilitating and equipping us all to share in the ministry of Jesus Christ our Lord. I have faith that the Spirit of God is present with us within this community, and I am confident that Christ Jesus will continue to guide us in his bountiful grace, drawing us closer into the Kingdom of the Lord so that we may all experience the peace and love of our Savior.

Blessings and Peace,

Ron Trimmer, Pastor
