Computational Biology

Pages coordinated by Wesley R. Elsberry and Diane J. Blackwood.

Computational biology includes diverse applications of computer science to the problems of biological research and simulation.  Of these topics, we find ourselves most intrigued by the fields of emergent computation, where principles of use to computer scientists can be derived from insights in biology.  The biological insight of evolutionary change gives rise to evolutionary computation, including evolutionary programming, genetic algorithms, and artificial life.  The biological insight of neural mediated behavior in organisms gives rise to artificial neural systems.
