Some time ago, I got a macro lens, a 55mm f/3.5 Micro-Nikkor to be precise. I then found out that it is one thing to have such a lens, and another to figure out what to do with it.
I eventually did figure that out. In Florida, there is no lack of botanical subjects through most of the year. By making my own dual-flash bracket and diffusion system, I was soon able to convert over 90% of my exposures on slide film into usable images. With macro-photography, it is possible to remove most of the variables that are involved in making a good exposure, which leaves only the issues of content and composition to deal with.

Pretty much all the above photos were taken with a 105mm f/2.8 Micro-Nikkor lens on a Nikon F2 camera, 1/60th s, f-stops ranging from f/32 to f/16, lighting provided by two Vivitar 3700 electronic flash units on manual. Oh, yeah, these are all Copyright 1984-1990 by Wesley R. Elsberry.
