Here are some WWW references to Delphi, Borland's new "Visual Pascal" development environment for Windows programming. Delphi has some similarity to Visual Basic in the sense that programming is partly done through "drawing" the controls or visible components of the Windows program. Delphi was officially announced February 14th, 1995.

The Texas A&M Bookstore had copies of Delphi available for educational license for about $103. As far as I know, the packages at the bookstore were all CD-ROM versions. As of today, April 28, 1995, I didn't see any copies of Delphi at the Texas A&M Bookstore. Diskettes are available from Borland; however, the diskette package does not have as many printed manuals. One of the local college bookstores, University Bookstore, has Delphi for $89.95. Please verify this information before basing a decision on it! I am not sure if the educational license differs in the extent of support from Borland. The educational price applies to students, faculty and staff at Texas A&M in College Station. Other universities probably have similar arrangements. The offer I received direct from Borland as a Borland customer is $199.95. Advertisements from Borland include the following quote from Gen Kiyooka, the author of Robohelp, Delphi encompasses everything programmers have learned about how to write Windows programs.

I had seen only positive comments about Delphi from anyone who had worked with the package before it was officially announced. Since then, I've heard many comments and not all have been positive. There are some difficulties for people who are not familiar with Object Pascal. Of course, learning a new language is likely to require continuous education!
