* - * - * Visual Presentation of Subject Categories

Go to start of home page

Select a subject category to go to further sub-categories for that subject or another graphical view.

This listing of subject categories is a continuing project and right now the graphics do not lead to information; however, the following leads to related information.

List of Information Categories

Two major influences in selecting the following categories of subjects were categories of personal expenditures and employment in the United States, according to the Statistical Abstract for 1994.
Government - Government agencies and requirements such as taxes
Knowledge - means of getting information that is not within one of the other main categories
Personal Concerns - individual concerns such as housing and household operations, food and transportation
Work - Categories of work, used to group major employment fields
Science - the sciences that have to do with knowing about their subject concern
Applied Science - the application of scientific knowledge, including engineering

Note: The subject categories are just now being added (beginning 11-Nov-95), so there may be few or no subjects for any particular category for a few days.

The research for this work has not been easy in terms of knowing the answer to my question when starting. The question itself has not been "obvious", and I haven't heard many comments like "yes, that's important research and it needs to be done."

The question that I've been working with is How can subjects be presented in a manner that is easier to understand than basic alphabetical lists? My predisposition has been to seek means of visual presentation using graphics somehow. It hasn't been easy to find relevant material even on such apparently simple questions as how do I determine what subjects there are at some given level of consideration?

My research notes for the visual presentation of subjects are available.
