The following information describes how to find a book at the Sterling C. Evans Library at Texas A&M University.

When you have the book's title

You can use NOTIS to search for the book by title.

Here's a NOTIS search for the title of a book.

t=Mythical man month

When you have the book's author

You can use NOTIS to search for the book by author.

Here's a NOTIS search for the author of a book.

a=brooks, fred

When you have some exact information about the book

You can use a keyword search.

You can use NOTIS to search for the book using the information that you have.

Here's a NOTIS search based on part of an author's name and part of the title of a book.

k=brooks and man month

When you don't know exactly anything about the book

Exactly anything means exact words that would be in the record for the book like words from the title, the author's name, the place of publication, or the Library of Congress subject headings.

You can use a keyword search.

These kinds of searches are not as certain to find out whether the library has a book. You can search for a general topic, and try to find the book among the search results. The following search is an example.

k=computer programming and management and ibm

You could also try to find a reference to the item in another related book, if it seems likely that you could find the item that way. Such a method might be more reasonable if the book you're trying to find is well-known or considered to be very important in its subject. Possibly, you could talk to someone else who is knowledgeable about the subject and get more exact information from them.
