Finding a journal

Go to start of home page, list of how to do things at the Library

The following information describes how to find a journal at the Sterling C. Evans Library at Texas A&M University.

You can type a title search from the NOTIS on-line catalog to find if the Library has a journal. For example,

t=time magazine

to search for Time Magazine. Typing just the start of a title is OK, though you may have to select the specific title from a list of items that begin with the same word or words. Journals in a list of items are identified through the use of the term <serial> at the end of the displayed title.

From the record for the specific journal, you can type the ho or holdings command to find out the exact years that the Library has the journal.

If you don't know the exact title of a journal, or you think that the journal may be listed with a different title than you are aware of, you could use a keyword search to try to find the title. Here are two example searches to find Time Magazine.

k=time and magazine
k=time.ti. and s.fmt.

.ti. specifies that "time" appear in the title and s.fmt. specifies that the item have a serial format.

Ask at the Reference desk in the Library if you have additional questions. Printed information for how to find journals and accomplish other tasks is available from the Reference Unit.
