About Online Class Notes

Without theory there are no questions; without questions, no learning.
Hence, without theory there's no learning. ~ Dr. W. E. Deming
- The main work of putting class notes online beside typing the notes
is designing how the notes will be linked together.
- When working on class notes for CPSC-311, I found that discovering what should be included
in the notes was the most complicated part of the project. Once that was decided
(through iteration), it made the rest of the work easier. All that was needed was
gathering the data.
- Doing the design and data input
just before the comprehensive test was not the best use of my time.
- It seems more efficient and better for learning to put the notes together through the
time of the course.
- Then the notes can be reviewed and edited during free time,
and the resulting information can be used to prepare for the comprehensive test.
- One benefit of having put notes online is the starting point for further projects. Part
of the design work has been done.
- The real benefit in having class notes online, when students do the work, is allowing
the knowledge, learning, and observations of classmates to benefit everyone, including those
working on the project.
- There should be a contribution of others' ideas, observations, questions, and comments
during the process of putting the notes online. Then that contribution becomes part of the
product for the benefit of everyone.
