Everybody's into the latest and greatest, Open Transport, FreePPP, yadda yadda yadda. What of the humble yet thriving old Macs, the ones that can run naught but the trusty old MacPPP 2.0.1?
As the shepherds heard from the angel, back in -3 A.D. (or thereabouts), "Fear not!"
First, open the Config PPP control panel:

Click Config... to configure the existing PPP Server or New... to set up a new one. Enter the correct settings for your modem and ISP. If you need the correct init string for your modem, check the Ask Mr. Modem page (the one shown here is for a SupraExpress 14.4 Plus).

Click the Authentication... button and enter your username and password in the appropriate boxes:

After closing all the Config PPP boxes, open the MacTCP control panel. Verify that PPP is selected in the upper box, then click the More... button:

Verify that the settings appear as below, with the exception of the Domain Name Server Information IP Address, which should be set to the address of your ISP's primary DNS server:

That's it! You should be ready to hit the 'net. Happy surfing!
