Dog Trax is a software program designed specifically for use by Retriever Clubs. It will run on computers running MS Windows® (98, ME, 2000, & XP). Its main purpose is to give club secretaries and hunt test/field trial secretaries a tool to make their jobs easier. Thus, it is a database application which:
- Provides a method of tracking information on the people associated with the club (eg. club members, those who run hunt tests and/or field trials).
- Provides a method of tracking information on the dogs that participate in hunting tests or field trials. This is useful, for example, so information only needs to be entered the first time a dog is "seen" (and this includes dogs listed as a sire or dam, not just those dog entered!).
- Provides a method of tracking information for each test or trial. Specifically, this is primarily meant to be used to enter information for a hunt test or field trial for use in preparing an event catalog.
As mentioned, the program is a database application. In specific terms, it is an application which maintains its data as an Microsoft Access 2000® database. This means that the program allows for an almost unlimited flexibilty - far more than we (the designers) can imagine. The data is available to you to manipulate (so long as the structure of the database is not changed) or extract into reports using MS Excel® or MS Word®.
The only system requirement outside of those already needed to run your operating system is a program/package that can read or import data from an MS Access 2000 database.
The first official release of Dog Trax was in January of 2001. The list of clubs who have purchased the program is growing rapidly.
Planned enhancements are already on the drawing board for future versions.
