The meeting was called to order by President Ronnie Singleton. The minutes from the 1999 Board of Directors fall meeting were approved as read.
Kirk King submitted the treasurer’s report. The balance as of July 26, 2000, is $41,287.91. Expenses for the Annual Business Meeting will be taken from this total. On July 27, 2000, a money market account was established and $20,000.00 from the regular checking account was put into this new account.
Dr. Etter first thanked STAMREP for its donation in memory of his mother-in-law. He then went on to report on the LERE program. He stated there will be 20 students returning to campus in the fall and 12-14 new students joining the program. Two students will be on internship. Fourteen are completing internships this summer. The program is starting to graduate 8-10 students each semester now. Last summer, the LERE students received 10 of the 21 scholarships awarded by the Appraisal Institute.
The website is nearing completion. The Appraisal Institute will have a link to our website.
The first LERE Round Table was deemed a success. Seven companies participated. The company representatives included LERE and non-LERE graduates.
The LERE advisory committee held its second meeting earlier in July. The committee will continue to focus on curriculum matters. The first priority of the committee – the establishment of a real estate law course – has been accomplished and Ed Elmore will teach the course in the fall. The committee will also be the program’s representative to the college.
In the Real Estate Center update, Dr. Richards announced the conferring of Ph.D.’s on Harold Hunt and Jennifer Evans Cowley in May. Updated market reports on Texas’ 27 MSA’s have been completed. The Bryan/College Station MSA report is on the Center’s website to show potential customers the format and information provided. The Center’s website now has over 16,000 pages of information. The website receives over 350,000 page views with 25-26,000 unique viewers monthly. Information is continuously being added to the website.
Dr. Richards announced the impending retirement of Dr. Benton Cocanougher, dean of the college. A search committee has been established to select a new dean. The college also has a new Executive Associate Dean and an Associate Dean. The Center has always had strong support from the dean’s office and Dr. Richards stated he expects that to continue. A new wing is being added to the Wehner Building. A trading room run by the Finance Department will be included.
The Center will host the third Commercial MCE course in Houston in conjunction with the South Texas Law College in October. The Center is working to host a similar course in the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the spring. The Distance Education Program is producing 2-hour videos for the west Texas area bi-monthly for their MCE courses. Finally, the Center is considering providing courses over the Internet.
Tom Goen reported no nominations have been received for life memberships.
Dr. Etter reported the four endowed scholarships – Wooten, Plum, Schmedemann, and Valero – are now producing enough that eight $1500 scholarships will be awarded to students in their last semester who have maintained at least a 3.5 GPA. The IPT Scholarship is still providing two $1250 scholarships to students at the end of their first semester. The Fred & Susan Caldwell Scholarship ($2000) has been provided for the second year. It goes to a student entering the program. The CCIM Houston Chapter has notified the LERE program it is offering a scholarship to a LERE student this fall. Finally, the Appraisal Institute awarded 10 of its 21 $3000 scholarships to LERE students last summer and an additional six $1100 Appraisal Institute Women and Minority scholarships in the spring.
John Schmedemann announced the election results:
Vice President – Bryan Leonard
Treasurer – Kirk King
Secretary – Wayne Etter/Terri Callery
Region 2 – Wendell Wood
Region 3 – Martha Agarwal (to fill a vacant position)
Region 4 – Tom Goen
Region 5 – Johanna Christiansen
John Schmedemann announced he is considering the YO Ranch in Kerrville or the T Bar M Ranch in New Braunfels for the 2001 Annual Business Meeting. After discussion, it was decided the T Bar M Ranch be given first priority.
New business:
Dr. Etter moved that due to lack of interest in the Fall Awards Banquet, scholarships be awarded at a luncheon in conjunction with another event on campus such as the Business Career Round Table, the Advisory Committee Meeting, and/or the STAMREP Fall Board Meeting. This would provide recognition for the students in front of their peers, the college, and future business associates. Seconded by Carrie Caesar (sitting in for Victor Grant). Motion carried.
Dr. Etter stated Terri Callery prepared a time line that we would like to review and modify for future use in planning the STAMREP Annual Business Meeting. Ronnie Singleton requested this time table be emailed to the board members for review. This time line will assist in the timely preparation of the summer meeting.
Ronnie Singleton announced the Association of Former Students directory is now available on CD-ROM and you can sort by profession. This option will assist in creating a mailing list for future potential members. He stated he will check into obtaining this CD-ROM.
The meeting was adjourned at 4:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Terri Callery
Secretary
