Annual Business Meeting
Boerne, Texas
July 28, 2000

Approximately forty members, six students, and other guests were present.

The meeting was called to order by President Ronnie Singleton. The minutes from the 1999 Annual Business Meeting approved as presented.

Kirk King submitted the treasurer’s report. The balance as of July 26, 2000, is $41,287.91. A money market account was established on July 27, 2000, and $20,000.00 was transferred from the regular checking account into this new account.

Dr. Malcolm Richards stated the Real Estate Center recently completed the update of the 27 MSA market reports. Over 16,000 pages of information are available on the Center’s website. The site has over 350,000 page views and 25-26,000 unique users monthly. Videos are still being produced including MCE courses for the local levels. The Commercial MCE course held in conjunction with the South Texas Law College will be held in Houston beginning October 12th. A similar course is being planned for the Dallas/Fort Worth area in the spring.

Dr. Richards announced the impending retirement of Dr. Benton Cocanougher, dean of the college. A search committee has been established to select a new dean. The college also has a new Executive Associate Dean and an Associate Dean. The Center has always had strong support from the dean’s office and Dr. Richards stated he expects that to continue.

Dr. Etter introduced the current students who attended the meeting – Chaney Moore, Joe Biles, Michael Patton, Russ Peterson, Cutt Ableson, Toby Ware, and Will Cropper. He thanked STAMREP for its continued support to the program, the students, and him personally. The fall semester will bring 33-35 students in the program including 12-14 new students. Eleven students will graduate in December and nine are scheduled to graduate the following May. Dr. Etter reported that the Appraisal Institute awarded ten of its twenty-one scholarships this past year to LERE students.

The Advisory Committee had two meetings this past year. The committee, consisting of LERE and non-LERE graduates, advises on curriculum and coursework and will represent the program to the college. This past year saw the committee work with Ed Elmore in developing a real estate law course to be taught this fall by Mr. Elmore.

John Schmedemann announced the election results:

Vice President - Bryan Leonard
Secretary - Dr. Wayne Etter / Terri Callery
Treasurer - Kirk King
Region 2 Director - Wendell Wood
Region 3 Director - Martha Agarwal (a one-year term to complete that left by a departing board member)
Region 4 Director - Tom Goen
Region 5 Director - Johanna Christiansen

John Schmedemann stated the YO Ranch in Kerrville and the T Bar M Ranch in New Braunfels are the sites being considered for the 2001 meeting.

Mr. Singleton requested new business:

  1. Dr. Ivan Schmedemann moved that STAMREP have baseball caps made and sell them again. Seconded by Steven Loomis. Motion passed.
  2. Dr. Curtis Lard announced the formation of the FIRE (Finance, Investment, and Real Estate) organization. At present the organization has 25 members who are mostly undergraduate students. Several of these students secured internships through this program.
  3. Ronnie Singleton announced the Fall Awards Banquet will no longer be held and instead an event will be held on campus in conjunction with the LERE Round Tables, Advisory Committee meetings, or STAMREP Board Meetings will be held.

Carla Brooks thanked the corporate and individual donors for their contributions. In addition she thanked the following for their help in preparing the Annual Business Meeting: Stuart White, Terri Callery, Carrie Caesar, and John Schmedemann.

Ms. Brooks presented outgoing president Ronnie Singleton with a plaque expressing STAMREP’s appreciation for his years of service to the organization.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:45 p.m.
