Eastside Park

Eastside Park is on a hill above Hearne on the eastern side of the city.  This park features the following facilities:

Golf Course
Located adjacent to Eastside Park, the Hearne Municipal Golf Course is a public 9-hole course that has its own practice putting green. Open daily, 7 AM - dark, the 3149 yard course is challenging. Every green is elevated, some are dome-shaped, and all of them are small. Pine trees line every fairway. Shot accuracy is essential. With a small pro shop, the climate allows year-round play. Green fees are as follows:

Clubhouse
The Clubhouse in Eastside Park is a lovely building built of native stone by the Works Projects Administration. It is a wonderful setting for high school reunions, family gatherings, annual dinners, parties, weddings, receptions, business meetings, and other events. The Clubhouse has a full kitchen, a small stage, men's and women's bathroom facilities. To rent, call 979.279.3461.

Swimming Pool
In Eastside Park, this vintage swimming pool features a bathhouse built of native stone by the Works Projects Administration. Open during the summer months, swimming lessons are offered by certified lifeguards. Cautious parents can keep an eye on their children at poolside or through a chain link fence from the parking lot. Chandler Park
Located on West 4th Street in the center of Hearne's commercial district, this park occupies the spot where the Chatmas Theater operated for many years. After the old movie theater burned, a park honoring former Hearne Mayor Guy Edward Chandler was built. This peaceful oasis is a great spot to rest a spell, read the historic plaques that dot the park, and enjoy a mini urban rain forest that includes a small recycling stream with Koi, live plants, and misters.

Located to the right just off of Hwy. 6 near the railroad overpass when heading towards Bryan/College Station, three baseball fields currently serve sluggers from Hearne & the surrounding areas. These baseball fields, along with the ones at Bob Jones & Eastside Park, represent an ideal venue for civic, business, or family baseball competitions.

Bob Jones Park & Playground Located across Hackberry Street from Hearne High School, the Bob Jones Park and Playground is named for former Hearne resident and baseball player Robert Truman "Bob" Jones who died at an early age. Facilities include:

Northside Park Northside Park is actually on the western side of the city. The Reverend R. C. Gentry & Mrs. Deborah Godfrey Memorial Park is part of Northside Park, which features the following facilities:
Teal Center has kitchen facilities, restrooms, & is the perfect place for small parties, meetings, & social gatherings. Children's Playground with swings & brightly colored playground equipment Northside Covered Pavilion that is the perfect place for outdoor family reunions and other events during warm months.

Robertson County Fairgrounds
The Robertson County Fairgrounds in Hearne host the annual Crossroads of Texas Music Festival, Glover's Rodeo, Robertson County Fair, and other events. The fairgrounds, which are west of Hearne on the highway going to Cameron, are close to the Camp Hearne site and the Hearne Municipal Airport entrance. Operated by the Robertson County Fair Association, these covered fairgrounds with restroom and vending facilities are available for rental year-round. Camp Hearne A new roadside park, complete with park benches and an historic marker, is being planned for the Camp Hearne site. This site is west of Hearne on the highway going to Cameron, between the Robertson County Fairgrounds and the northern end of the Hearne Municipal Airport runway. Walking trails through the ruins of this former World War II Prisoner Of War Camp are being planned along with a possible visitors center.

New Sports Complex A new million dollar outdoor sports complex is slated to be built next to the site of the new Hearne High School off of US Hwy 79 near GATX. Details will be posted as they become available.

In Robertson County

Calvert Country Club Just outside of Calvert, the private Calvert Country Club boasts a 9-hole golf course, club house, swimming pool, tennis courts.

Children's Playgrounds Are there any public playgrounds for children? I assume there are children's playgrounds at some of the elementary schools?
Roadside Parks There are two roadside parks in Robertson County.  One is north of Calvert on State Highway 6; the other is east of Franklin outside of New Baden on State Highway 79.
