Lake Belton

Size: 12,500 acres
Age: Impounded in 1954

Location: Lies five miles northwest of Belton off Farm Road 317 or Farm Road 36 in both Bell and Coryell Counties.

Description: This scenic spot on the Leon River is lined with limestone hills dotted with a mix of juniper, mesquite and live oak. Deep and clear, this reservoir averages 3 feet deep with a maximum depth of 110 feet.

Comments: One of the most diverse fisheries in the state, offering bass fishing in traditional shallow water cover and hybrid stripers in open water. Eight tire reef attractors have been installed to provide game fish habitat.

Fishing Tips: Look for smallmouths and largemouths lurking near underwater ledges, and catch them with plastic grubs or diving crankbaits on light line. Imitation crawfish are consistent winners.
