Hubbard Creek Lake

Size: 15,250 acres
Age: Impounded in 1962

Location: Lies on a tributary of the Clear Fork of the Brazos River five miles west of Breckenridge, off U.S. Highway 180 in Stephens County.

Description: This was impounded to create a municipal and industrial water supply and control flooding in the Brazos River watershed. Today it remains a major source of recreation and the water supply for Abilene and other communities in the Big Country. Usually, the water is fairly clear for this part of the state. Maximum depth is 60 feet

Comments: This reservoir lies in classic West Texas mesquite pasture country, but rocky shoreline and standing timber provide game fish habitat not always found in this region. It has long been known as a hot spot for crappie and black bass.

Fishing Tips: Winter months can be excellent for catching crappie in the major creek arms. Launch your boat at Peeler Park and use live minnows or white jigs in the flooded brush to catch limits of crappie.
