Location: Lies in the middle of Yegua Creek ten miles northwest of Brenham, Texas off State Highway 36. The dam lies in Washington County, backing water into Lee and Burleson counties.
Description: This lake is surrounded by prarie and rolling grasslands dotted with mixed hardwood forests. The water is turbid and fertile with a maximum depth of 38 feet. There is some standing timber in the upper end, but most of the lake is open.

Stocking History:
Comments: At full pool, this lake has 85 miles of shoreline, much of it developed into public recreation areas. It is one of the most fertile lakes in the region with exceptional hybrid striped bass fishing.

Fishing Tips: In open water, look for schools of hybrid stripers by trolling with deep diving crankbaits or by casting spoons and bucktail jigs. The river below the dam provides easy access for shoreline anglers to one of the outstanding tailrace fisheries for white bass and channel catfish.

Facilities: Both federal and state recreation access abounds. Lake Somerville State Park (409-535-7763) has camping, swimming, boat ramps, nature trails, and RV hook-ups on both the north and south shores at the west end. There are five Corps parks that offer similar facilities.
