Location: Lies on the Sabine River at the Louisiana border just northeast of Jasper. The dam lies in Newton County and backs water into three other counties.
Description: This giant reservoir is 65 miles long with 1,200 miles of shoreline. Most of the water is quite clear, yet rather fertile. Maximum depth is 110 feet. Native brush, aquatic grasses and standing timber provide excellent fish habitat.

Comments: Despite heavy fishing pressure and liberal bag limits, this reservoir continues to produce high numbers of bass, crappie and stripers. Most anglers credit a hydrilla bloom in the late 1970's for this sustained quality.

Fishing Tips: Summer and winter, the best bass fishing is often in and near the grass beds. Pro-guides use jigs in the winter and plastic worms in the warm months to take their limits of fish averaging three pounds a piece.

Facilities: The SRA and the U. S. Forest Service provide numerous recreation sites, including picnic tables, toilets and launch ramps. Also, several private commercial operations offer full-service marinas.
