PERRYTON PARKS DEPARTMENT



The City of Perryton, Texas, has five named parks, one municipal swimming pool, and one unnamed park. The named parks include Whigham Park, Leatherman Park, Stark Park, Whippo Park and Murphy Park.

Whigham Park is the oldest city park and was originally named Central Park. It currently carries the namesake of the City's first City Manager who served for 35 years. The park includes picnicking, camping, restrooms, basketball courts, recreational vehicle hookups, and playground areas with equipment. This park includes large mature trees and open turf areas for leisure and active recreation. It is located in the center of the community on Main between SE 9th and SE 11th Avenues.

Leatherman Park is a large park located in the Northwest side of the community. Features provided for park users are picnic units, playground units, restrooms, a wading pool, and beach volleyball. The park has large shaded green space for leisure and active recreational purposes. The park is located at SW 3rd Avenue and S Jefferson Street and is immediately adjacent to the Ochiltree County Expo complex.

Stark Park is a scenic park located in a totally residential area of Perryton in the Southern part of the community between SW 16th and SW 18th Avenues between S Eton and S Fordham Streets. It has a very large open green space with mature trees and lush turf. It provides picnicking, playgrounds and large areas for both active and leisure recreation.

Whippo Park is a small neighborhood park located in the Wheatheart Addition to the City of Perryton, Texas. It has playgrounds and picnic facilities. It also provides a small open space for activities such as unstructured field sports or kite flying. It is located at the intersection of S Texas Street and SW 23rd Avenue.

Murphy Park is the newest developed Perryton, Texas, park. It is also the largest. It is located on the City's East side. It provides fields for soccer and softball, picnic facilities, restrooms, a mile fitness trail with ten fitness stations, a basketball court, a playground and a wading pool. It is located between SE 2nd and SE 4th Avenues and between S Cedar and S Elm Streets.

The Municipal Swimming Pool is a heated Olympic size pool with attached diving and wading pools. It is open during the summer months only and generally coincides with the School system's closed period. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 1:00 PM until 6:00 PM and Sunday from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM. Daily admission is $1.00 for children less than 12 years of age, $1.50 for youth from 13 to 18 years of age, and $2.00 for others above 18 years of age. Season and family tickets are also available. The pool may be reserved for after hours' operations, functions and parties. For more information call the swimming pool at (806) 435-4462 during hours of operation. The pool is located on S Jefferson Street at SW 15th Avenue, just South of the Perryton High School South parking lot.

The unnamed park is undeveloped and is located adjacent to the Municipal Golf Course on Main Street.
