The various City owned and operated utilities' rates are set by Ordinance by the City Council. The following rates are in effect as of November 24, 2003

Please feel free to contact the City Utilities Department for questions you have concerning your bill or these rates. Please have your account number and your service address handy when you call.

Water bills are calculated by usage in UNITS of 1,000 gallons. There is a minimum charge for water, regardless if any is consumed. The water is measured by a water meter located in the alley, the front or the side of the service address. It will be located within a meter can or meter box, usually with a locked lid. Once a month, a City employee will go to the meter can, open it, read the meter and then record the information into a handheld data collection device. Those data are then transferred to the Billing Computer where the actual calculation is made. As a rule, the water meters are read around the 15th of the month. This means that the bill you receive on the first of the month is for water that was consumed as much as 45 days earlier.

Wastewater bills are calculated using the water meter consumption as a basis for the bills. Currently, there is a maximum charge for residential customers per month, but commercial customers are charged based on total consumption. There is a minimum charge for wastewater service, regardless of consumption.

Natural Gas bills are calculated by usage in UNITS of 1,000 cubic feet. This translates into about 1,000,000 BTUs of natural gas. There is a three unit minimum charge for usage for 3 units and less. The natural gas is measured by a gas meter located as is the water meter. It may or may not be near the water meter. As the meter reads the water meter, he will also read the gas meter. In turn, these data are also transferred to the Utility Billing Computer where the actual calculation is made. Just as with the water meters, the gas meters are read around the 15th of each month.

Solid Waste is billed to residential customers and is currently based on 2 tips a week. A tip is emptying the dumpster 1 time. No residential customer has any type of service other than the twice a week tip service. Commercial accounts are based on a minimum charge and an additional charge for any tips over 2 tips a week. Accounts outside the City Limits are based on the number of tips plus mileage charges. As a general rule, Solid Waste fees for commercial and out of town are individually based on the need. The in town residential and commercial fee includes a limb truck service and minor level of debris and junk pick-up. This does NOT include clean-up of rent houses or commercial waste. These items are charged on a time and materials basis.

THESE RATES ARE SHOWN AS REFERENCE ONLY.  THERE IS NO GUARANTEE, EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED THAT THESE DATA ARE CORRECT.  THE LAST ORDINANCE OF RATES IS THE ONLY TRUE REFERENCE FOR RATES.
