ROBERTSON COUNTY HISTORICAL COMMISSION AWARDED 2002 DISTINGUISHED
SERVICE AWARD BY THE TEXAS HISTORICAL COMMISSION

The Robertson County Historical Commission (RCHC) will be recognized with the Distinguished Service Award for outstanding preservation work accomplished in 2002.  The awards ceremony is scheduled for May 12, 2003, during the opening session of the Texas Historical Commission's annual historic preservation conference in Austin.

RCHC was nominated for their collective work in 2002, but specifically for two online projects.  First, the continued documentation of Robertson County's history as part of their official website, www.robertsoncounty.info, coordinated by Kent Brunette, has been an important focus over the last two years.  Mr. Brunette has been the primary contributor with help from volunteers working through the Internet.  Last year's additions include maps, cemetery lists, several master's theses and books online, all of the available census' online, pictorial tours, and much, much more.  It is well worth the time to visit the Robertson County TXGenWeb site.

The second project was the collaboration between the Commission and community to develop a Seventh Grade Curriculum for Robertson County History.  Sebie Harris, Louise Grigsby, Kathy Hedrick, Anita Maxwell, and Jimmy Reeder contributed to this collection of history notes and activities that are meant to introduce our children to Robertson County's role in Texas History.

"It is appropriate that these efforts by our members and friends are recognized by this Distinguished Service Award," said RCHC Chair Cathy Lazarus.  "We are honored to receive this award for Robertson County and hope to continue to add to the base we are building."
